Quilts, Quilts, Quilts!

There’s nothing quite as breathtaking as strolling thru a garden gate only to be greeted by fences lined with handmade quilts.

Each year the many hours spent by the kennel girls becomes apparent with the number of fabulous quilts displayed at our annual quilt show.

Friends, family and even strangers flock to see what the ‘girls’ have been up to.

Making a Scene. . .

In the land of blog we read the word vignette so often that we assume everyone knows what it means.  Lately though, I have discovered that’s not the case.

In the past few months when I used the word I found that quite a few people had no idea what I was talking about.

I thought I would try and make it a little more clear. . .the word vignette has 3 definitions.  The one that we are referring to is:  A brief scene.

In our homes we are constantly creating vignettes throughout.   It makes them more appealing and inviting.

So it only makes sense that we might want to do the same at our Dog Kennel Quilt Show.

Last weekend was the big day of our show.  Take a look at some of the scenes the Kennel Girls created. . . .

Using two of her red and green quilts Diana put together this  ‘cherry’ vignette.

IMG_2113

Luscious cherries and darling dishes that she found at a thrift store sit atop a cheerful quilt.  It still needs to be quilted, but isn’t it ‘sweet’?  Another one with pinwheels and tulips hangs over a chair.

IMG_2114

I too had cherries on my mind.

IMG_2060

Just a little quilt perfect for plopping over a vintage ironing board.

IMG_2061

A darling stitching of a sewing machine made by Sue.

IMG_2083

IMG_2084

How cute is this scene made by Laurie?  I’m sure all of you quilters will be wanting to create a similar vignette for Halloween!

IMG_2085

I love the vibrant colors in this quilt and isn’t Mr. Skelly great?

IMG_2086

What a great bench made from an old headboard.  More fun Halloween quilts and framework.

IMG_2088

I had to show one more pic of the fun saying she wrote on the chalkboard.  Isn’t it so true?

IMG_2087

Not to be outdone. . .Diana created another fabulous Halloween scene.  It’s hard to take this girl anywhere without her ‘making a scene’. lol!

IMG_2095

Who Knew Lynda had such giant spiders lurking in her backyard?

This is such a fun quilt with the rickety old haunted house!

IMG_2096

Here it is under a tree with a fabulous Halloween quilt called ‘Hocus Pocusville”.

IMG_2097

Now you know when you hear the word vignette what it means.

I hope you get a chance to ‘make a scene’ somewhere!

August Guild and Quilt Show Announcement. . .

Excitement is in the air for our upcoming quilt show.

quiltshowposter 13

This show is the hi-lite of the year for us kennel girls.  If you are in the area,  it’s a ‘must see’ event!

What could be more beautiful than a backyard full of handmade quilts.

You will find them lining the fence as well as incorporated into fun vignettes.  The luncheon and trunk show are both always fabulous and you will want to bring your pocket books.  Shopping with the vendors is a delight.  This year we will have a wonderful sale of donated surplus items.  I can just imagine the goodies you’ll find there.

The funds earned from the surplus items is going for a wonderful cause.  Catch Rachels Story here: https://www.facebook.com/events/430445407045418/

Mark your calendars and we look forward to seeing you!

Now onto this months meeting.

The meeting was held at Sue’s house and as you can see, she is one of those; “never an idle moment’ kind of gals.  Stitching in hand and busy as usual.

IMG_1837

We were all anxious to discuss our upcoming quilt show.

The two sisters, Lynda and Jill.

IMG_1839

Janey and Amanda.

IMG_1840

“The Queen”, Laurie and Joylyn.

IMG_1856

I missed getting a photo of Diana and I but  here she is with her ribbons from the latest Steel Days Quilt Show.

Bragging rights well deserved!

IMG_1848

This sweet baby quilt made by Jill will be donated to charity.

IMG_1841

And how cute is this one made by Diana for donation also.

IMG_1843

Look at this darling truck quilt she made for a grandson.  Sweet dreams are sure to  be had sleeping under this!

IMG_1844

IMG_1845

I love the colors Joylyn used in her Union Jack Quilt!  You will be getting a better look at all of these at the show.

IMG_1849

IMG_1850

She also shared this fun star quilt with a snowman border.

IMG_1854

IMG_1853

Love the minky polka dot back!

IMG_1855

Laurie is a lover of all things ‘Halloween’.  How fun is this chevron?  Great  fabrics and bright colors!

This is just a ‘sneak peek’ at what you will see at the quilt show.

Mark your calendars and we’ll see you there!

July Quilt Guild. . .Making Plans

Some of the ‘Kennel Girls’ gathered together for another work meeting and to make plans for  our up and coming Quilt Show.

Joylyn, Lynda, Jill, Jann, Sue, Diana, and Amanda.

IMG_1446

Before we talked business we had ‘show and tell’

Jill shared this quilt made from such fun colors.

IMG_1435

It’s a great design with the inner white blocks and the flowers scattered randomly here and there.

IMG_1436

She also showed us this cute lady bug runner.

IMG_1437

I’m just betting that she has been seeing lady bugs in her sleep.  She made 5 of these cute things.

IMG_1438

Sue shared this blue and white beauty.  Love it!

IMG_1439

IMG_1440

Diana shared this fat quarter bundle that she won at the last ‘Shop Hop’.   She only visited one store, Broadbents in Lehi.  How lucky was that to have won?   A few of our ‘Kennel Girls’ work there.  And no, it wasn’t rigged.  lol!

IMG_1441

I’d say she’s mighty happy to be a ‘Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner”.

IMG_1442

Blocks were turned in that will be made into our charity quilt for the show.

IMG_1444

The date has been set for Sept. 6th.  Mark your calendars and plan to spend the day.  It’s such a fun time!  The luncheon is always fabulous and we have a great ‘Four Seasons’ trunk show planned.

Hope to see you there!

hugs,
