Our January meeting was a scheduled work day. Thanks to Rae Ann for making the arrangements for us to use her church building.
Our president, Laurie was on a cruise (with a broken leg no less) so Sue took charge. We all wish Laurie a speedy recovery. If that gal will just stay off it. If you know Laurie you know just what I mean.
Janey, Lynda, and Sue
me, (Jann), Pam, and Susann.
Rae Ann and Diana.
Joylyn, doesn’t she look excited? Could it be because she volunteered to give us a demonstration this month?
We discussed a bit of business and then had show and tell.
1. Keep working on baby quilts for donation. You can make either baby or lap size.
2. Extra long twin quilts are needed for the new Veterans hospital.
3. Our meeting is going to be held on the 2nd Monday instead of Tuesday for the next three months.
Pam showed us some fleece quilts that her family made at Christmas to give to charity. Each family donated $5 – $10 and she bought fleece. They all pitched in and tied them at a family party. What a great idea for service!
I loved Joylyn’s demo of Quilt Smart. If you weren’t able to attend you really missed out. She used 2” grid and laid 2 inch squares out on to it. You cut whatever size of block you want to make.
You then press (not iron) using an applique pressing sheet.
This is what it looks like after pressing them down. She is making a mini Trip Around the World. See how she has a diagonal row of darks.
You then turn it over and fold on the crease and sew.
Voila, a pefectly lined up block! The squares measure 1 1/2 inches when finished.
We then exchanged our 2” squares. We will continue to do this at each meeting so bring about 26 squares of one fabric. Each person will take 2 of each. Feel free to bring more than one fabric if you’d like.
We had a potluck luncheon and those who could stayed and sewed. I had to leave so I didn’t get pics of sewing. I did however, get some of the delicious food. Some things are just more important. lol!
Rae Ann brought a yummy chicken taco soup. I will get her recipe and share it next month.
Lynda made a delicious Avocado Salsa and I brought a pesto dip & crackers. I did get Lynda’s recipe and will share it in a separate post.
We also had tasty rolls and Janey’s Scotch-a-roo’s. . .well, let’s just say you can’t eat just one. Guess I ‘d better share that sweet treat also.
It was another fun, informative, and productive meeting.
Amanda has our demonstration for next month. Can’t wait to see what she has to teach us.
Hugs,
from the Kennel Gals!
